AACTAThe single mother from Davoren Park was propelled into the limelight with her best supporting actress win for Snowtown at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts awards gala on Tuesday night but was not expecting any fuss on her return.

"I'm in my sloppy joes but I'll have my award in hand," she told The Advertiser ahead of her flight home.

"My head is spinning, I'm absolutely in a whirlpool of thoughts. I'm so excited.

"Not in a million years" did she think she would be hobnobbing with the who's who of the Australian film industry at the Sydney Opera House, especially clutching the equivalent of an Australian Oscar award.

"I was just about to tell (the film stars) how amazing they are and what a fan I am and they jumped in first to tell me how great the job was that I did in my role," she said.Louise Harris - Unknown Actor Lands AACTA Award

"It's just so surreal. (Geoffrey Rush) congratulated me on my role and said I did a fine job."

Before Snowtown, Harris, who lives with her seven-year-old son in the embattled northern suburb, was unemployed.

She had an altercation with a lady at her supermarket about her red kelpie which caught the eye of director Justin Kurzel and casting agent Alison Meadows.

Ms Harris is determined to make the most of her newfound love of acting.

"I'd love to do another film," she said. "I love Australian film."

Andy's Got Talent - Auditioned

Byron Bay muso Andy Holm has reached the semifinals of Australia's Got Talent 2012

The 43 year old was one of 64 performers out of the 6000 who auditioned to make it through to the Melbourne semi-finals of the popular Channel 7 talent show which screened this week.

Andy performed original compositions during his audition and his heat in front of the celebrity judges, playing seven differnt instruments.

"You need at least two of the judges to send you through, all three judges sent me." he said

Andy's musical dexterity is even more impressive given that he suffered a life threatening motorbike accident in 2000.  He spent a year in a wheelchair and a half on crutches.

Andy said the secret to success on TV talent shows was to understand their format and not be afraid to stand out.  "You can't be boring for 20 seconds or you are gone.  I came in the Byron rainbow colours, so I already stood out.

Dreams can be achieved with a little commitment
