"Casting for The Sapphires was open for a long time, seeking just the right combination of talent for this production.  We were accepting submissions for this production for over 3 months and the final cast definitely have the talent for this Australian answer to The Supremes".  Helen D2A

sapphiresWe're extremely proud and happy to announced that Deborah Mailman (second from the right) and Jessica Mauboy (left) will be joined by newcomers Shari Sebbens (extreme right) and Miranda Tapsell (second from the left) as the stars of the major new Australian film THE SAPPHIRES, to be produced by Goalpost Pictures Australia.

THE SAPPHIRES, which begins filming in August in Sydney and then Vietnam, is an adaptation of the hugely successful stage musical of the same name. Adapted by Keith Thompson (Clubland) and playwright Tony Briggs, THE SAPPHIRES will be directed by acclaimed actor and theatre director Wayne Blair and produced by Goalpost Pictures Australia's Rosemary Blight and Kylie du Fresne with Briggs as associate producer.

THE SAPPHIRES is inspired by the remarkable true story of Briggs' mother and her family. The film is set in the heady days of 1968 when four talented singers, from a remote Aboriginal mission, are discovered by an unlikely talent scout. Plucked from obscurity and branded as Australia's answer to The Supremes, The Sapphires grasp the chance of a lifetime when they're offered their first real gig - entertaining the troops in Vietnam. For the girls, a whole new world of sex, war, politics and soul opens before them.

Andy's Got Talent - Auditioned

Byron Bay muso Andy Holm has reached the semifinals of Australia's Got Talent 2012

The 43 year old was one of 64 performers out of the 6000 who auditioned to make it through to the Melbourne semi-finals of the popular Channel 7 talent show which screened this week.

Andy performed original compositions during his audition and his heat in front of the celebrity judges, playing seven differnt instruments.

"You need at least two of the judges to send you through, all three judges sent me." he said

Andy's musical dexterity is even more impressive given that he suffered a life threatening motorbike accident in 2000.  He spent a year in a wheelchair and a half on crutches.

Andy said the secret to success on TV talent shows was to understand their format and not be afraid to stand out.  "You can't be boring for 20 seconds or you are gone.  I came in the Byron rainbow colours, so I already stood out.

Dreams can be achieved with a little commitment
